HISTORY
OF THE ´SEÑORÍO DE CASALARREINA`
SEÑORÍO DE CASALARREINA`COUNTRY
HOTEL
(Known in the Old Times
as the ´Aranjuez`of ´La Rioja`)
*With reference to the Aranjuez Royal Palace in
Aranjuez
Old Dominican Monastery of
´Our Lady of Pity`(Nuestra Señora
de la Piedad) was founded in 1509 by the Bishop
of Calahorra, Don Juan de Velasco. It is a Historic
and Artistic Monument of Catholic Monarchs and
Plateresque style, built in masonry stone with
important ornaments and with a carpentry or woodwork
ceiling.
The ´Hospedería`(=rooming
house) occupies part of what used to be the Saint
Nicholas School (=Colegio de San Nicolás)
and the Ladie´s School of Our Lady of the
Pity (= Nuestra Señora de La Piedad), a
true work of Art in its old times due to its enormous
dimensions and its slender architecture. Located
in one of the best places of the village, it has
been accurately called the ´Aranjuez
of Rioja`.
After a careful restoration and decoration work
done by the designer Pedro Ortega and his team,
fifteen well furnished huge rooms open their doors
to us. Don´t forget to pay attention to
the original decorative elements ( precious stones
set in forged metal, singular washbasins, mirrors,
curtains, Lamps, paintings, ´Trampantojos`
(=paintings on doors and in the walls).
The big walls of our hotels shelter spaces and
corners that make us go back in time and enjoy
ourselves with the visual effects that its original
decoration offers us.
